ABOUT PATEK PHILIPPE WATCHES
Patek Philippe is the oldest family owned and independent watch manufacture in Geneva, Switzerland. The company was founded in 1839 by Antoine Norbert de Patek and Francois Capek. Later in 1845, Adrien Philippe would join Antoine Patek to invent the first keyless winding mechanism. Over the next 175 years, Patek Philippe would go on to create a tradition by making many of the world’s most beautiful, innovative, and timeless watches. Patek Philippe has led the watch industry in creating quality timepieces that convey a sense of dignity and authority. Their classic designs have been worn by everyone from Hollywood actors and actresses to authors and foreign dignitaries. In 1851, England’s Queen Victoria and Prince Albert would become the first of many famous client’s of the esteemed watch manufacturer. Patek Philippe clientele also includes King Christian lX and Princess Louise of Denmark, King Victor Emmanuel lll of Italy, Countess Koscowicz of Hungary and the Sultan of Egypt Hussein Kamel.
The watch firm has maintained a tradition of innovation that includes an impressive repertoire of more than 80 patents and is considered by watch aficionados to be the finest timepieces in the world. Their quality of workmanship is unrivaled. Patek received the patent for the perpetual calendar mechanism, the first double chronograph the self-winding mechanism, numerous patents for time-zone watches, a patent for the secular perpetual calendar retrograde date indication and the annual calendar mechanism. Patek Philippe watches consistently display rarity and there is no better example of this than the Henri Graves Super-complication created in 1933, which displayed 24 different functions.
A horological masterpiece. After Mr. Graves death, the watch was auctioned off at Sotheby’s in December 1999 for $11 million US dollars to the Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Bin Ali-Thani of the Qatari royal family and became the most expensive watch ever sold. In 2014, the timepiece would be put up for auction once more this time selling for $24 million US dollars. Since this time Patek Philippe watches have dominated auction house results exhibiting the tremendous value that they retain. The fine Swiss watch manufacturer has been owned and operated by the Stern family since 1932 and today is managed by Mr.Theirry Stern.
