About Universal Geneve
The company was founded in 1894 by Numa Emile Descombes and Ulyesse George Perret. Universal Geneve remained a family business up until 1967 when they were bought out by the Bulova group. UG was the first to manufacture a chronograph wristwatch in 1917. At that time, the majority of watches being made were pocket watches, so the idea of a wrist watch was quite novel. The UG chronograph watches became quite popular in the 1930s and customers like the Dutch Royal family commissioned Universal to create military timepieces. Universal Geneve is well known for it’s Compax, Tri-Compax and Polerouter model watches. The Polerouter was designed for UG by a young Gerald Genta, who went on to design many iconic wristwatches.
